Helicobacter pylori, Obesidade, Massa corporal, IMC
Abstract
Objectives: Correlate by means of a systematic revision of the relationship between the eradication of the micro-organism and the gain of body weight. Method: The most relevant studies published in the English and Portuguese languages between 1985 and 2017 (June) were analyzed, with reference to MEDLINE (National Library of Medicine) databases and Virtual Library in HealthScielo. Outcome: Of the 12 articles that make up the scope of the study, only two did not have as main outcome the increase in BMI after H. pylori eradication. However, 10 articles showed a positive relation to the objective of this study. Among the causes for this result, the main ones are the improvement of the dyspeptic symptoms and the changes in the levels of ghrelin and leptin. Conclusions: The eradication of Helicobacter Pylori is of paramount importance in the cases indicated, but the doctor should be aware of the positive relationship demonstrated in this systematic revision, between eradication of the bacterium in question and the increase of BMI. It may include in the conduct a clarification as to the likelihood of a potential mass gain and its health risks, as well as efficiently orienting ways to control that outcome.
