Fisioterapia respiratória em pacientes com esclerose lateral amiotrófica: uma revisão sistemática

Fisioterapia respiratória, Esclerose lateral amiotrófica

Introduction. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease with a multifactorial etiology and no effective drug treatment to date. Objective. To ascertain through a systematic review the effectiveness of respiratory physiotherapy in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Methods. The most relevant studies were verified in the MedLine databases. The search strategy used the following combinations of keywords: "amyotrofic lateral sclerosis" AND ("respiratory theraphy" OR "respiratory treatment"). Results. A total of 9 articles were included in this review, demonstrating that physiotherapy through respiratory physiotherapeutic interventions obtained positive results and impact in improving the quality of life, thus reducing physical and functional loss. Conclusion. This study aimed to suggest the physiotherapeutic procedures currently used in ALS. It is indicated to perform follow-ups with changes in goals and behaviors at each stage of the disease.

Introdução. Esclerose lateral amiotrófica (ELA) é uma doença neurodegenerativa progressiva, fatal, de etiologia multifatorial e sem tratamento medicamentoso efetivo até o momento. Objetivos. Averiguar por meio de uma revisão sistemática a efetividade da fisioterapia respiratória em pacientes com esclerose lateral amiotrófica. Métodos. Foram verificados os mais relevantes estudos nas bases de dados MedLine. A estratégia de busca utilizou as seguintes combinações de palavras-chave: “amyotrofic lateral sclerosis” AND (“respiratory theraphy” OR “respiratory exercises” OR “respiratory treatment”). Resultados. Participaram desta revisão 9 artigos que demonstraram que a fisioterapia, por meio de intervenções fisioterapêuticas respiratórias obtiveram resultados e impacto positivo na melhora da qualidade de vida, amenizando a perda físico-funcional. Conclusão. Buscou-se neste trabalho sugerir os procedimentos fisioterapêuticos utilizados atualmente na ELA. Indica-se realizar acompanhamentos com mudanças nos objetivos e nas condutas a cada fase da doença.
