Introduction. High levels of occupational stress can lead to work accidents, low productivity, insomnia, changes in mood and Burnout Syndrome. One way of decreasing it is through gymnastics, such as conventional relaxation techniques and mindfulness. However, studies comparing both techniques in the labor sector are scarce. Objective. To compare the effectiveness of mindfulness with the conventional relaxation technique, in a group of employees of the technical-administrative sector of a Higher Education Institution, in the city of Juiz de Fora-MG. Methods. This is a randomized clinical trial, composed of ten volunteers, randomly distributed into two groups, mindfulness and conventional relaxation, comparing responses regarding the sleep cycle, feeling physically and emotionally exhausted, and feelings of irritation, anxiety and sadness, before and after the interventions. Results. There is a tendency for improvement in the mindfulness group in relation to the sleep cycle, feeling exhausted physically and emotionally, and in the feelings of irritation, anxiety and sadness, in the conventional relaxation group there was no changes found. Conclusion. Our findings suggest that the mindfulness technique has a tendency to positively influence the emotional aspects of workers, when compared to the conventional relaxation technique. However, this work presented limits, such as the number of reduced sessions, the lack of participants and the sample loss during the interventions. That is why we suggest that further research be carried out so that the results are better elucidated.
