Abstract
Objective. To analyze through a systematic review the level of knowledge and strategies and outcomes related to the prevention of CVC infections. Method. We analyzed the most relevant studies published in English and Portuguese in the last five years, with reference to the databases LILACS, BDENF, SCIELO ePUBMED. The descriptors central venous catheter, prevention, infection and combined nursing care were used in Boolean AND and OR. Results. The studies analyzed included the main analysis of the nursing team, since it was linked to the prevention of infection by central venous catheter, in view of the practice and methods used in the care provided, focused on the prevention of infections through the use of CVC and from this theme emerged the following subcategories: The evaluation of the knowledge of the professionals who work daily under the CVC and the available / used methods and techniques applied in the care provided to the patients. Conclusion. This review states that nurses have knowledge about CVC infection prevention practices and techniques, but they are not always used or are performed incorrectly. Thus, the importance of nurses' performance in a correct manner, based on evidence, as well as the accomplishment of health education and periodic evaluations of the professionals is verified. Because it is known that such infection has one of the highest rates of CHF and the use of correct techniques, it contributes to risk minimization and improvement in patient care.
