Abstract
Objective. To verify, through a systematic review, the resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to the main drugs used in tuberculosis therapy. Methods. The most relevant studies published originally in the English language during the period of 2013 to 2018 were analyzed, with reference to the MEDLINE (National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health) databases. The search strategy used the following combinations of keywords: Mycobacterium tuberculosis AND drugs resistance. To identify the study designs, the following terms were used: published in the last 5 years, Humans, English, Preschool child: 2-5 years, child: 6-12 years. Results. Based on the studies evaluated in different countries and populations, resistant strains were observed for the various first-line treatment drugs. Regarding multiresistant drugs, a range between 9.3% and 81.2% of the cases studied. Conclusions. Based on the studies analyzed, there were relevant cases of M. tuberculosis resistant to first-line drugs, especially in patients with a history of previous treatment for TB in relation to the new cases. Evidence of the importance of effective public policies and TB control programs to ensure adherence and completion of treatment by patients. And thus, halt the transmission and spread of the disease and reduce cases of resistant TB.
