This is a qualitative study that has as objective to understand the meaning of the treatment for the Chronic Renal Sick people and to know the alterations presented for same in Renal Therapy the Substitute - hemodialisys. To collect the data we use a half-structuralized script of interview, and the analysis followed the orientation of Minayo. The results had evidenced that the majority of the Chronic Renal Sick people in therapy substitute considers the treatment as a survival form, of maintenance of the life, exactly with its restrictions, had to the alterations suffered in from the drawn out and painful treatment, the suffering and the physical and laborate limitations. We conclude that the shelter, the support and accompaniment to this patient is basic and that the nurse, while member of the health team, can help surpassing the fear and the limitations and to face the challenges that the illness imposes to them.
