Introduction: Critical ill patients, worldwide, are experiencing a growing emergence and spread of antibiotic resistant pathogens. One of the most common diseases found is the Ventilator Associated Pneumonia - VAP. The incidence of nosocomial pneumonia in mechanically ventilated patients is high, ranging from 7% to over 40 % in cases of VAP 11.3% can be attributed to Acinetobacter. Objective: To analyze the prevalence of infection with Acinetobacter baumannii in patients with VAP admitted to an Intensive Care Unit Adult. Methods: Review of medical records through a structured questionnaire and 18 patients admitted to the ICU with a diagnosis of VAP were evaluated. There were demographic data, underlying disease, duration of MV and VAP when diagnosed type of microorganism by which patients were colonized. Results: 55.5 % of the sample was colonized by Acinebacter baumannii. Infected patients had a mean age of 70 ± 10 years. Male gender was more prevalent. The underlying diseases were COPD and respiratory failure (p = 0.52). The measured time for VM priate diagnosed VAP in infected patients was 2 ± 2.4 days. Conclusion: A high percentage (55.5 %) of patients infected with Acinetobacter baumannii was found.
