Introduction: The photopolymerizer is essential to guarantee the quality of the polymerization processes of restorative materials. Sufficient light emission and intensity, correct wavelength and adequate light exposure time are important factors responsible for the success of cosmetic restorations. Studies recommend an emission of light intensity of 400 mW / cm² to polymerize each increment of 2 mm of composite resin during an exposure time of 40 to 60 seconds. In addition, the devices offer different photoactivation modulations that allow the clinician to opt for different forms to perform the photopolymerization. These modes may vary from device to device, but the most common are Soft-start, Pulse-delay, High and Low. Objective: To evaluate the irradiance emitted by three different methods of photoactivation of devices used in the Dentistry Clinic of Maternidade Terezinha de Jesus - HMTJ. Method: Eight photoactivators of the brand Bluephase LED (Ivoclar) were tested. To measure the irradiance, an irradiometer (SDI) was used in which the light output tip of the devices was positioned and then turned on for 20 seconds according to the mode tested (High, Soft or Low). Results: It was observed that the high and soft methods emit average irradiance around 1182.7mW / cm2 and 1181.5mW / cm2 and that these means have no statistical difference between them. However, the low method has an average of 625.5mW / cm2. , differing from both the Soft method and the High method. Conclusion: The three methods tested reached the minimum value indicated for polymerization of resinous materials, however, the Soft and High methods presented statistically higher values than the Low method. Thus, the Bluephase light-curing devices used in the Dental Clinic of the Hospital Maternidade Terezinha de Jesus are suitable for dental use.
