The increased concern with aesthetics in the dental area resulted in the development of several new treatment modalities. One of such is the Invisalign® system, a method of orthodontic movement, developed by Align Technology, based on a three-dimensional digital technology. The objective of this work was to perform a literature review on the Invisalign esthetic alignment system, addressing its indications, contraindications, advantages and disadvantages. A search of the PubMed databases was performed using the English and Portuguese languages, with the following terms: Orthodontics, aligners and Invisalign The analysis of the researched literature allowed us to verify that, in order to achieve a satisfactory final result, patient collaboration is essential. Despite the limitations of this system, special devices and techniques of conventional apparatus have been associated in order to minimize them.
