Introduction: The traumatic cerebral injury actually is a huge problem of public health service and still is one of the main reasons of functional inability and death in all world. Hypothermia is a therapy intended to combat the deleterious effects of TCE, being known to provide a neuro-protection after traumatic brain injury. Objective: Verify the advantage in therapeutic hypothermia use as the improvement, as the evolution on the complications on the improvement of the cerebral traumatic injury patient’s. Methodology: It was used the methodology of systematic literature review. Was analyzed published studies on the English language, among 2002 December and 2013 June. The selection criteria were taken by MEDLINE database (National Library of Medicine). Results: It was identified a number of 58 studies of interest, although only 10 originals randomized controlled studies were part of the scope of the review. Final considerations: The utilization of hypothermia on the clinical practice as the therapeutic strategy in patients’ victims of traumatic cerebral injury is not recommended at the time

Introdução: A lesão cerebral traumática atualmente é um grande problema de saúde pública e continua a ser uma das principais causas de morte e incapacidade funcional grave em todo o mundo. A hipotermia é uma terapia destinada a combater os efeitos deletérios do TCE, sendo conhecida por proporcionar uma neuroproteção após lesão traumática do cérebro. Objetivo: Verificar o benefício no uso da hipotermia terapêutica, quanto à melhora nas taxas de mortalidade, bem como a evolução com complicações nas pacientes vítimas de lesão cerebral traumática. Métodos: Utilizou-se o método de revisão literária sistemática. Foram analisados estudos publicados na língua inglesa, entre dezembro de 2002 e junho de 2013. A seleção dos estudos foi feita a partir da busca da base de dados MEDLINE (National Library of Medicine). Resultados: Identificou-se um total de 58 estudos. Apenas 10 artigos originais controlados e randomizados fizeram parte do escopo desta revisão. Considerações finais: A utilização na prática clínica da hipotermia como estratégia terapêutica no paciente vítima de lesão cerebral traumática não está aconselhada no momento.
